For marketers, the importance of generational differences cannot be understated. Our formative years shape our understanding of the world, the way we interact with one another and our ability to respond to daily stresses and challenges.
However, generational differences (and cut-offs!) aren’t always an exact science. In fact, sometimes, two generations will merge.
Confused? Don’t worry – that’s where we’re here to help.
As we turn our attention to the future, and settle into 2024, a new generation has emerged: one that is poised to redefine the world as we know it.
Introducing Gen Zalpha
Who exactly are this generation? Well, they’re a mix of Gen Z and Gen Alpha: their age range is between 9 and 14, and notably, they’re not just digitally native: they’re digitally fluent.
Eager to learn more? You’re in good hands: in January, Pion conducted research into the wants, affinities and needs of this new generation. With data from 2,000 Zalphas in the UK and the US, here are some of our top findings…
1. 77% of Gen Zalpha say being happy is the most important thing for them
2. 60% say gaming is their main interest
3. 85% have access to a smartphone
4. 65% spend between 2-5 hours on their screens per day
5. Only 20% say that fitting in with others is important to them
6. 94% want the media they consume to make them laugh
7. 56% of female Gen Zalpha’s are using filters to edit their photos
8. 66% already have favorite brands
9. 74% say it is important to have a say in their parents’ technology purchases
10. 62% of Zalpha males prefer to socialize with their friends on gaming platforms and not IRL
